If a worker is unable to complete their site induction and sees a message indicating that SWMS are required, this is controlled by an induction setting in BuildPass.

Why This Happens

BuildPass can be configured to prevent workers from completing an induction unless approved SWMS are in place. This ensures safety documentation is completed before workers proceed, but it can also block inductions if SWMS have not yet been approved.

How to Allow Induction Without Approved SWMS

Follow these steps to change the setting if appropriate for your site:

Step 1: Open Settings

  • Log in to BuildPass.

  • Navigate to Settings.

  • Click More settings.

Step 2: Open Induction Settings

  • Select Inductions.

  • Navigate to Documents.

Step 3: Update the SWMS Requirement

  • Scroll down to find Prevent induction without approved SWMS.

  • Disable this setting to allow workers to complete induction without approved SWMS.

Once disabled, workers will be able to induct even if SWMS have not yet been approved.

Important to Consider

  • Disabling this setting removes a safety control

  • Only change this setting if it aligns with your site’s safety process

  • You may prefer to approve SWMS instead of disabling the requirement
