Critical Path in Scheduling (Gantt)

Critical path settings in Scheduling module

What is a Critical Path?

The critical path is the longest sequence of dependent tasks that determines when a project will finish.

πŸ‘‰ If any task on the critical path is delayed, the entire project timeline is delayed.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • The critical path will only appear when task dependencies are fully set up

  • Adding subtasks to a parent task on the critical path can:

    • Break dependency links

    • Cause earlier critical tasks to stop appearing

How to fix it:

  • Re-add the dependencies between tasks

  • The critical path will automatically reappear

What’s New

βœ… Critical Path View

You can now highlight the critical path directly in the Gantt chart.

  • Go to the View menu (eye icon)

  • Toggle Critical Path

  • Critical tasks and dependencies will be highlighted in red

βœ… Centralized View Controls

  • The Baseline toggle has been moved into the same View menu

  • All display options are now in one place

Note:
If no baseline has been saved, the checkbox will appear greyed out

What You’ll See

When enabled:

  • πŸ”΄ Critical tasks highlighted on timeline bars

  • πŸ”΄ Critical dependency arrows highlighted

  • β˜‘οΈ New Critical Path checkbox in the View menu

  • πŸ“Š Ability to filter for Critical tasks in the Filter panel

  • πŸ“ Baseline toggle now in the same View menu

Why This Matters

This update helps you:

  • Quickly identify tasks that impact your project end date

  • Spot schedule risks earlier

  • Make faster, more informed decisions

  • Keep your project on track

(Tip: Use the Critical Path view during schedule reviews to immediately see where delays will have the biggest impact.)
